FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Spencer Embler held Bowie State to just three hits on Thursday morning as the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos picked up an 8-0 victory in six innings at the CIAA Round-Up held at Arnette Park. Embler also drove in two runs at the plate while striking out a season-high ten batters. Six different Lady Bronco hitters recorded a hit in the opener.
Embler, a junior from Thomasville, NC, was given plenty of run support to work with in the first two innings as FSU scored five runs. Fayetteville State struck for four runs in the top of the first and followed with one in the second of BSU starter Hayley Flint.
The Lady Broncos batted around in the top of the first as Embler, Sierra Henderson-Holmes (So., Olivia, NC), Sencerae Locklear (So., Fairmont, NC) and Amanda Anderson (So., Hope Mills, NC) each had an RBI in the inning. Henderson-Holmes drove in her second run of the game in the second on an RBI sacrifice fly to center field.
FSU added three more runs in the final two innings to end the game at 8-0. Fayetteville State plated one run in the fifth inning and two in the sixth. Henderson-Holmes scored the lone run in the fifth after Nia Trawick (So., Fayetteville, NC) struck out but reached after a throwing error by Bowie State’s third baseman. Embler and Daniqua Taylor (Jr., Currie, NC) drove in both runs as part of the two-run sixth inning.
Embler walked just one batter over six innings of work as she picked up the victory on the mound. Flint took the loss for Bowie State allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits, one walk and no strikeouts in two innings of work.
Taylor had a team-high two hits for the Lady Broncos; while Embler and Henderson-Holmes recorded two RBI each. Cassandra Claybourne posted two hits for BSU.
