Final Stats

Fayetteville, NC - As the campus quiets for the start of spring break, Fayetteville State University hosted Glenville State College in a double-header softball game. The Pioneers (5-9 overall) won both games 7-2 and 6-1. The highlight between both games came in the first inning of game one. April Branch hit a homerun over the centerfield fence for two RBI's. Fayetteville State (3-7 overall) committed four errors in the second game as the Pioneers produced ten hits and six runs.

April Branch can now scratch a notch on her bat with her first homerun of the season. Prior to her feat, LaTonia Gatling singled to right-center to reach first and later advance to second off FSU's second batter. The play gave the Broncos a 2-1 lead going into the second inning.

Glenville State tied the game 2-2 in the third inning and rallied in the fifth with two runs to go ahead 4-2. The Pioneers added to the lead with one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Tracy Brighter stuck out nine batters but gave up eight hits. Three reached base on balls.

In the second game, the skies may have been bright and sunny but a gloom began to hang amongst the Broncos. Glenville State collected four hits and three runs in the second and third innings combined. In the top-of-the fourth inning, errors on the scoreboard began to increase along with the Pioneers' hits and runs. GSC scored a run in every inning but the first and sixth inning.

The Broncos scored its only run in the fifth inning. Shahiree Covington singled through the right side for FSU's third hit of the game. Covington advanced to second when Lugenia Beatty reached first on an error by the shortstop and rounded home when catcher Rita Diaz singled into center field.

The Broncos will now hit the road during spring break for a tournament in Kissimmee, FL and the CIAA Round-up in Raleigh, NC.
