Fayetteville State Comes up Short in Doubleheader Loss to Claflin

Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Claflin University this afternoon at the Lamon Street Park. The Broncos (1-7 overall) fell 8-0 in the first game and 13-3 in the second.

Claflin (4-10 overall) had a big day with three home runs from 23 hits.  

In the first game, the Panthers connected on ten hits for the 8-0 victory with two doubles in five and a half innings. FSU had a total of three fielding errors.  The Broncos had three hits but the Claflin defense was tough.

FSU had six hits in the second game with Maggie Smith (Fayetteville, NC) collecting two of them. Brittany Lee (Newton, NJ) and Rachel Rodriguez (Lillington, NC) both hit a double. HaLee Knowles (Wallace, NC) finished with two RBI while Shi-Cara Goins (Ramseur, NC) had one. Fayetteville State scored two runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh. The Broncos had a few issues on defense with seven errors.

Claflin scored big in the 13-3 win with three home runs to add to 13 hits. The Panthers also had a triple and two doubles. CU scored at least one run in each inning except the first.

Fayetteville State will host Davis and Elkins in a doubleheader game on Tuesday, March 6th at the Lamon Street Park.
