FAYETTEVILLE - For the second straight year, the Fayetteville State cheerleading squad will add some spice to the Soffe Holiday Classic Open Championships on Saturday.

FSU's team, better known as "Cheer Phi Smoov," will be special guest performers at the classic. The Broncos will take the floor at 6 p.m. inside Riddle Gymnasium on the campus of Methodist University.

The performance will consist of a portion of FSU's 2009 CIAA Tournament "Super Saturday" exhibition, mixed with its own brand of crowd involvement.

More than 30 groups and schools will compete in the Holiday Classic which begins at noon.

Sophomore Bianca Malloy and freshman Shomika Edmonds, members of "Cheer Phi Smoov," were selected to the CIAA's All-Cheerleading team in November.

A native of Winston-Salem, Malloy is a second year varsity cheerleader and the 2009-10 Miss Cheer Phi.

"I'm very honored and think it's an awesome experience," Malloy said. "I'm glad I actually get to do it this year, instead of waiting until my junior or senior year."

Malloy's major is social work and she hopes to pursue a career as a social worker for the Department of Social Services.

Edmonds is a freshman from Enfield, N.C. She has been cheering since the 4th grade and was recipient of FSU's first "Future Bronco Cheerleader Award" from the FSU Summer Cheerleading Camp in 2006.

"When I found out, (about being honored by the CIAA) I was so shocked and surprised," Edmonds said. "It's a great and wonderful feeling."

Malloy said the honor is the result of hard work.

"We practice so hard," she said. "We practice every day at the beginning of the season. We work really, really hard to support our football team as well as the other athletics here at Fayetteville State."
