FAYETTEVILLE STATE SET TO HOST THE 2017 HBCU CHEERLEADING COMPETITION ON APRIL 7-8

Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State University Department of Athletics will host the 2017 Black College Cheer and Dance Championships (BCCDC) on April 7-8 inside Felton J. Capel Arena. The Stomp and Shake Show Off will take place on Friday, April 7th at 7:00 p.m. The BCCDC Cheer and Dance Championship will be held on Saturday, April 8th at 9:00 a.m.

Cheer Phi Smoov, the FSU cheerleading squad, will as the hosting HBCU team. Cheer Phi Smoov won first place in the Stomp and Shake Division at the 2016 BCCDC held in the Crown Coliseum. Fayetteville State head cheerleading coach Dr. LaWanda Miller also won the Coach of the Year award.

The Black College Cheer and Dance Championships is sponsored by Holla'! Cheer and Dance Magazine. Holla'! Cheer and Dance Magazine is the only print and digital magazine about the sports of cheer and dance from an African-American perspective and with African-American interests in mind. 

The competition last year had 62 cheer and dance teams traveling from all over the United States to participate in the BCCDC. The teams came from several high schools, performance studios, recreation and scholastic teams from North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and as far away as New Orleans, Chicago, and Harlem, NY.

"Holla'! has become an impactful force in the cheerleading industry and we're excited to be hosting this event," stated Dr. Miller. "It's an honor to have Cheer Phi Smoov participate in this event in our own backyard. I'm also looking forward to passing on the title of HBCU Coach of the Year to the next deserving coach."

Tickets are available at www.BlackCollegeNationals.com. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for the Stomp and Shake Show Off with ticket prices of $5 in advance and $10 at the door. The Black College Cheer and Dance Championships are priced at $10 in advance and $20 at the door with doors opening at 8:00 a.m.
