- The Fayetteville State University women's bowling team will begin the 2016-17 season this weekend (November 11-13) at the CIAA North-South Divisional Meet hosted by Bowie State University at AMF Laurel Lanes in Laurel, MD. FSU will face the other four Southern Division schools with bowling programs.

The first two days of competition will consist of team matches followed by a baker's match on the third and final day. The Lady Broncos will compete against Johnson C. Smith, Livingstone, Saint Augustine's, and Shaw during the three-day event.

The Lady Broncos have a good blend of youth and experience with four returners and three newcomers.

Senior Jasmin Aponte (Fayetteville, NC) returns after earning All-CIAA honors in the 2015-16 season. Aponte had the fourth highest average in the CIAA. She averaged 175.73 on the season against conference competition. In the first divisional match of the year, Aponte rolled an event-high 168.5 average in team matches to claim the Southern Division Highest Average Award.

Juniors Devondra Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) and Lola Neal (Wilson, NC) helped led FSU to a CIAA Championship Runner-up finish with a 58-17 mark in the conference. Bazemore is a two-year letterman with championship experience and averages close to 150. Neal had the second highest average (181.6) in the 2015-16 conference championships to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Sophomore Veronica Colon-Santiago (Hope Mills, NC) is another All-CIAA selection returning to the roster for head coach Bobby Henderson. Colon-Santiago ranked ninth overall amongst the CIAA with a 167.28 average last season. She received the Freshman Southern Division Highest Average Award with a 160 average in the first divisional team matches. Colon-Santiago rolled a season-best 220 versus Virginia State during the CIAA Roundup.

“I feel confident going into this season-opening contest, we’re focused and ready to get on the lanes,” said Henderson. “As a team, we know what our expectations are and this is an opportunity to set a mark for the season. I feel good about the team; both returners and newcomers, now it’s time to perform.”

A trio of freshmen joins the Lady Broncos this season. Paige Brayboy, a native of Maxton, NC, from South Robeson High. Brittany Worthy hails from Durham, NC and attended Research Triangle High. Savannah Starling is a hometown product of Fayetteville and comes from Cape Fear High.

Match play is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11th for the first day of the CIAA North-South Divisional Meet at AMF Laurel Lanes.
