Fayetteville State Predicted to Win it All with Five Bowlers Named to the Preseason All-CIAA Team

Charlotte, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in conjunction with its Bowling Coaches Association has announced Fayetteville State University as the predicted winner of the upcoming 2017-18 season and named five Broncos to the Preseason All-CIAA Team. Sophomores Brittany Worthy, Savannah Starling, and Paige Brayboy along with junior Veronica Colon-Santiago and senior Lola Neal received the preseason accolade.

FSU is also ranked 11th in the National Tenpin Coaches Association DII/DIII Preseason Poll with 150 adjusted points.

2017 CIAA Rookie of the Year Brittany Worthy (Durham, NC) highlights this year’s Preseason All-CIAA Team. She ranked third overall in the conference with a total of 6,284 pins and a 190.42 average.  

Last season’s All-CIAA and All-Tournament honoree Savannah Starling (Fayetteville, NC) averaged 175.64 last season to earn preseason accolades. Starling rolled the fourth highest game in the league and second highest game in the division with a 247.

CIAA All-Tournament team co-member Veronica Colon-Santiago (Hope Mills, NC) also received Preseason All-CIAA Honors. She bowled in four tournament games with a 188 average and had an overall average of 163.19.

Paige Brayboy (Maxton, NC) and Lola Neal (Wilson, NC) also made the list for the preseason squad. Brayboy averaged 162.16 while Neal had a 159.17 average.

The 2017 CIAA Championship Runner-Up received 72 vote-points to lead the list. The Broncos completed last season with a 54-8 overall record, sweeping the Southern Division 36-0. In the Southern Division rankings, Johnson C. Smith ranks second with 38 points and Shaw is third with 35. Saint Augustine’s received 33 vote-points and Livingstone is at the bottom with 11 points.

Reigning Champion Bowie State University was projected to finish second in the league with 70 points. Virginia State ranked third with 61 points followed by Virginia Union with 55 points.

Fayetteville State will open the season hosting the CIAA North & South Event I from November 10 – 11 at the B&B Bowling Lanes.
