Chesapeake, VA -- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with the CIAA Bowling Coaches Association announced Fayetteville State University's Bobby Henderson as the 2016-17 CIAA Bowling Coach of the Year on Friday, March 24th during the opening ceremony of the 2017 CIAA Bowling Championships at the AMF Western Branch Lanes. This is the fifth time Henderson has received this honor; his first time since the 2013-14 season.

Henderson led his Lady Broncos to a perfect 36-0 division record to secure the CIAA Southern Division title. FSU concluded the regular season 50-1 in CIAA play and 54-8 overall. Henderson guided three of his student-athletes (Jasmin Aponte, Savannah Starling, and Brittany Worthy) to earn All-CIAA First Team accolades including Worthy being named CIAA Rookie Bowler of the Year.

Henderson has been the only bowling coach at FSU since the program began in 2001. The Lady Broncos bowling program won their 13th consecutive division title this season. In the 16 seasons of existence, Fayetteville State has not finished with a losing record.

Henderson has won 15 division titles collectively with a career coaching record of 948-252 overall. FSU currently has a streak of 142 consecutive victories against Southern Division opponents. The Lady Broncos have not dropped a divisional game in four seasons.

"I appreciate being recognized by the CIAA and my coaching colleagues, but I'm all about team awards," declared Henderson. "This award is being received because of the total efforts of our team. This honor goes to the student-athletes and our support staff. Hopefully we can celebrate together by winning the ultimate team award of a championship."

Fayetteville State has the opportunity to capture their fourth CIAA Championship in school history. FSU won the title in 2007, 2011, and 2012.

Opening ceremony of the 2017 CIAA Bowling Championships will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24th. The championship is free and open to the public.
