DURHAM - The Fayetteville State bowling team topped St. Augustine's but fell to Bowie State to finish the first day of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Bowling Championships 1-1. The double-elimination tournament will conclude with quarterfinals, semifinals and finals on Monday beginning at 9 a.m. FSU won its match with SAC 4-1, dropping only one game. The Broncos had a match-high 199 pins in the fifth and final game. The Broncos' match with Bowie State, the Eastern Division champions, pitted two of the conference's top three teams. FSU trailed 3-1 in the fifth game but won two straight games to force a decisive Game 7. FSU had a match-high 242 pins in the sixth game. The Bulldogs won the final game, sending FSU to the losers bracket. FSU will face Saint Paul's in the quarterfinals and needs to go undefeated to win its second CIAA title.
