HAMPTON, VA – Fayetteville State bowlers Crystal Mujica (So., Fayetteville, NC) and Kiara Reid (Sr., Rocky Mount, NC) have been selected to the 2013 CIAA Women’s Bowling All-Conference Team, it was announced this afternoon by the league. Mujica and Reid each receive the All-Conference recognition for the second consecutive season as FSU heads into the CIAA Bowling Championship this weekend as the Southern Division’s top seed.
The duo helped guide Fayetteville State to its tenth straight CIAA Southern Division title this season after going 57-18 overall and 51-12 in conference play. The Lady Broncos were 38-7 in divisional play and 16-5 in Baker matches. FSU was first in the division, and second overall, in total pins with 34,578.
Mujica finished her sophomore campaign with a team-best 171.37 average (7026 pins/41gm) in conference matches to rank ninth in the CIAA. She bowled a season-high 223 against Winston-Salem State this past weekend at the CIAA Southern Divisional Meet in Fayetteville; Mujica also tallied a 210 in a victory over Johnson C. Smith. Overall, she bowled four games of 200 or better on the season and was named Team MVP at the CIAA Round-Up (Feb. 8-10) in Midlothian, VA.
Reid was FSU’s second-best bowler in conference play this season with a 171.31 (7024 pins/41gm) average. She ranked tenth in the conference behind Mujica in individual high averages. The only senior on Fayetteville State’s roster, she recorded three 200 or better games including two in a four-match span. Reid was named Southern Division MVP in the Lady Broncos’ second tournament of the season at the Southern Divisional Meet II held in Winston-Salem.
Bowie State’s Shayla Lightfoot and Briana Evans garnered the CIAA Players of the Year honors. Lightfoot was tabbed the CIAA Player of the Year while Evans earned CIAA Rookie of the Year accolades.
Durham AMF Bowling Lanes will host this weekend’s championship event with Team Matches beginning on Saturday, Mar. 23 from 10:50 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
