FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State women’s bowling team will return to action for the first time in nearly a month this weekend as it hosts a CIAA Southern Division Meet at Lafayette Bowling Lanes. The Lady Broncos will participate in 15 matches during the tournament; which begins on Friday afternoon and last until Sunday. This will be the final regular season tournament for FSU before traveling to Durham for the CIAA Bowling Championships Mar. 23-25.
Fayetteville State will be one of twelve CIAA member institutions taking part in this weekend’s tournament. All six teams from both the Northern and Southern Divisions will be involved in the event. The first two days of competition will be team match play while Sunday involves Baker matches. The matches begin at 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 9:55 a.m. on Sunday. Each match will take place in one-hour increments.
The Lady Broncos will play five matches each day against Johnson C. Smith, Livingstone, Winston-Salem State, Saint Augustine’s and Shaw. Fayetteville State enters the weekend with a 43-13 overall record and 37-8 mark in conference play. FSU went 6-6 its last time competing at the James Brown Invitational in Baltimore, MD. The event featured nine nationally-ranked teams; three of which the Lady Broncos defeated in No. 21 Monmouth, No. 11 Kutztown and No. 12 Sacred Heart.
Fayetteville State has faced each of its upcoming opponents six times apiece this season; the Lady Broncos are a combined 25-5 against the divisional members. FSU is unbeaten at 6-0 against Johnson C. Smith, Livingstone and Shaw; and is 4-2 against Winston-Salem State and 3-3 versus Saint Augustine’s.
