FSU Bowlers Head into the Weekend as Conference Best

Fayetteville, NC -- The Fayetteville State women's bowling team will return to the lanes this weekend at the CIAA Bowling Event II. The competition will be held at the Bowl America Midlothian in Richmond, Virginia with Virginia State University as its host.

Fayetteville State has been riding high since its last round of competition in November. The Broncos posted a perfect 12-0 weekend at the CIAA Event I and had a total pin count of 13,319. The highest of the event, FSU currently leads the CIAA Southern Division and has a better record than the CIAA Northern Divisional leader, Bowie State University (11-1).

Most recently, the Broncos were ranked 21st on the National Tenpin Coaches Association December Poll with 119 points. NTCA submitted ballots rank the top 25 programs in the sport of NCAA bowling. NCAA bowling competes as a National Collegiate sport, in which all three divisions compete for one National Championship. This year's National Championship will be the first year that automatic qualifiers will take place in the sport of bowling. The six established conference winners will be added to the four schools selected at-large, who will compete for eight spots at the championship.

Pre-season All-CIAA standout Devondra Bazemore will lead the Broncos into the weekend after averaging 198.86 following Event I. The CIAA November Bowler of the Month leads the conference with a total of 1,392 pins in seven games.

Teammate Savannah Starling has the second highest average of all bowlers at 198.25 in eight games.

Three more Broncos rank in the Top 10 of conference averages. Veronica Colon-Santiago has the fourth highest average of 193.71 (7 games) and Page Brayboy is sixth at 184.5 (8 games). Brittany Worthy rounds out the group with the ninth highest ranking of 181.75 in 8 games.



Lola Neal and Abriya Jackson are ranked in the Top 25 with the 15th and 21st spot, correspondingly. Neal has an average of 156.71 in 7 games and Jackson has a 148.60 average in five.

Fayetteville State will face the CIAA Southern Division on Friday, January 26th through Sunday, January 28th. The Broncos will face the Northern Division during the weekend of February 9th through the 11th.
