DURHAM, N.C. - The Fayetteville State Lady Broncos may now just be a day a few matches away from winning their second straight CIAA Bowling championship.

The Lady Broncos, the CIAA Southern Division Champions and total pin leader after Day 1 of the bowling tournament, cruised into the double-elimination bracket unbeaten following the second round of play on Sunday at Durham AMF Lanes.

Fayetteville State, which has won nine straight division titles and is seeking its third CIAA championship in the last five years, enters the championship round as the top seed after collecting the most pins, at 6,375. The Lady Broncos won two Baker matches on Sunday to determine seeding for the tournament, and now enter the quarterfinals unbeaten at 2-0. Bowie State is also 2-0.

There are six teams left heading into the final day Monday. Fayetteville State will face Bowie State in the winner's bracket while St. Augustine's will play Winston-Salem State and Virginia State will take on Elizabeth City State in the elimination bracket. Bowling starts around 9:35 a.m.

The Lady Broncos had little trouble with their two bracket wins on Sunday, beating No. 8 seed Livingstone 4-1 in a best-of-seven match before dispatching No. 3 seed Winston-Salem State 4-0 later in the day.

Fayetteville State's Crystal Mujica (Fr., Fayetteville, N.C.) has the second-highest scoring average in the tournament, at 171.5, while teammate Kiara Reid (Jr., Rocky Mount, N.C.) is fifth at 168.5. De'Andrea Bethea (So., Raleigh. N.C.) is eighth at 167.0 while Kelly Wakerhauser is 16th at 152.25. Mujica, Bethea and Reid were each named to the CIAA All-Conference team this week.
