Yanais Fischer Bowled A 220 On Saturday Afternoon

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State women’s bowling team went undefeated on Saturday afternoon during day two of the CIAA Southern Divisional Meet III held at Lafayette Bowling Lanes. The Lady Broncos won all five matches against their Southern Division opponents including a one-pin thriller against Saint Augustine’s. Crystal Mujica (So., Fayetteville, NC) led FSU for the second straight day with a 186.40 average in five matches bowled.
Fayetteville State began the day by easily defeating Livingstone and Johnson C. Smith by nearly 300 pins each. FSU won its first match over Livingstone 825-533 and followed with a 920-635 win over Johnson C. Smith. Those two victories set up a pivotal division contest against Saint Augustine’s. The two teams showed why both were ranked first and second in the divisional standings as the match went into the tenth, and final, frame. The Lady Broncos earned the hard-fought one pin victory 893-892 as Mujica led the way with a 199. Fayetteville State came back from the thrilling victory to defeat Shaw 810-664 and Winston-Salem State 854-792 to finish the day with a 5-0 record.
Mujica bowled a 200 or better for the third time in two days as she recorded a 224 in the first match against Livingstone. Yanais Fischer (Fr., Havana, Cuba) made the most out of her lone appearance as she bowled a 220 in match two against Johnson C. Smith. De’Andrea Bethea (Jr., Raleigh, NC) finished with a 170 average while Ashley Cooper (Fr., Rocky Mount, NC) added a 164.80 average. Megan Maynor (So., Fayetteville, NC) and Kiara Reid (Sr., Rocky Mount, NC) bowled four matches each; Maynor averaged a 168 and Reid a 167. Renee Guischard (Fr., Fayetteville, NC) rounded out the FSU bowlers with a 136 average.
Fayetteville State led all Southern Division schools in victories during day two while Saint Augustine’s posted a 4-1 record. On the Northern Division side, Elizabeth City State also went 5-0 and was the only team with more than four victories. Saint Augustine’s Nicole Sciortino led all Southern Division bowlers as she bowled 200 or better in four out of five matches; her 247 in match one was the top individual score of day two. Shayla Lightfoot of Bowie State had three matches with a 200 or better score.
The final day of the CIAA Southern Divisional Meet III will take place on Sunday, Mar. 17 and begin at 9 a.m. Day three of competition will consist of five Baker matches.
