Fayetteville State is One Win Away from 1,000 After a Split Day

Baltimore, MD – FSU’s Bobby Henderson has been the Head Coach of the Broncos since its inception as a sport at Fayetteville State University in 2001.

Fayetteville State captured two out of four matches today in the second round of the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State University. The two wins put Fayetteville State one match away from the 1,000-win mark.

FSU has accumulated a 999-261 overall record in 17 seasons.

The Broncos defeated Norfolk State 954 to 838 in the first game with Savannah Starling rolling a 222 and Devondra Bazemore hitting a 217. Brittany Worthy and Veronica Santiago rolled a 177 and 176, respectively.

Fayetteville State captured its second win with a game-two victory over Belmont Abbey. The Broncos defeated the Crusaders 927 pins to 859. Brittany Worthy led the way with a 252 pin-drop. Santiago finished the match with a 197.

After a 791 BYE round, the Broncos dropped a close 872-852 match to Caldwell and its last match of the day to Chesnutt Hill, 939-844.

Worthy finished the day with the team’s highest average of 210.8. She rolled three games over 200. After the 252 against Belmont Abbey, Worthy rolled a 226 in the BYE match and a 225 against Chesnutt Hill. Her other two rounds were a 177 and a 174.

Page Brayboy was the fourth Bronco to hit 200, with a 209 against Chesnutt Hill. Worthy, Starling, and Bazemore were the other three.

Fayetteville State will finish the final day of the invitational with a best four out of seven rounds tournament of Baker play and hopefully reach the 1K-win plateau.
