RICHMOND, VA – The Fayetteville State bowling team placed fourth out of 12 teams this past weekend at the CIAA North/South Divisional Roundup. The Lady Broncos recorded a 13-5 record during the three-day event and totaled 14,063 pins. Crystal Mujica (So., Fayetteville, NC) received Team Most Valuable Player honors for FSU.

Fayetteville State concluded the event with 10,035 total pins in team match play and 4,028 total pins in Baker matches. The Lady Broncos went 9-3 in team competition and 4-2 in Baker matches.

Mujica led FSU with a 170.50 average including a 211 against host school Virginia Union. De’Andrea Bethea (Jr., Raleigh, NC) was the second leading bowler for the Lady Broncos with a 167.33 average while Kiara Reid (Sr., Rocky Mount, NC) was third with a 166.33. Ashley Cooper (Fr., Rocky Mount, NC) finished the weekend with a 165.67 average and was followed by Megan Maynor (So, Fayetteville, NC) at 158.25.

The Lady Broncos opened with a 4-1 record on the first day of competition. Fayetteville State defeated Lincoln in its first match 751-632 before falling to Virginia State 889-854. FSU responded to win its next three matches against Virginia Union (836-677), Elizabeth City State (845-712) and Chowan (813-495). The Lady Broncos fell in their final match of the day to Bowie State 876-864.

Fayetteville State went 5-1 in its final day of team matches. FSU’s lone defeat came in its final match against Bowie State 903-788. The Lady Broncos were victorious over Virginia Union (887-749), Virginia State (986-969), Lincoln (784-681), Elizabeth City State (855-840) and Chowan (772-560).

FSU was 4-2 in Baker matches highlighted by wins over Lincoln (642-591), Chowan (664-474), Virginia State (682-664) and Virginia Union (707-621). The Lady Broncos fell to Bowie State (741-647) and Elizabeth City State (695-686).

The Lady Broncos will return to action this weekend (Feb. 15-17) when they travel to Baltimore, MD to take part in the Morgan State Invitational.
