Richmond, VA -- Fayetteville State University improved to 8-0 after the second round of the CIAA Bowling Event II, thanks to Savannah Starling rolling the highest overall average of 184.90 in ten games.
A sophomore from Fayetteville, NC, Starling led the first day with a 187.4 average and finished the second with 182.4. She opened day two with a 180 in the bye round and a 147 against Johnson C. Smith. She bowled one pin over 200 in the match against Livingstone and knocked down a 170 against Shaw. Savannah matched her highest count from the first day with a 214 against St. Augustine’s. Starling received a plaque prior to the Baker Matches Sunday morning.
Brittany Worthy (So. – Durham, NC) joined Starling during the awards presentation to receive the Highest Game Award. Worthy knocked down a 229 against Livingstone in the first round. She ranked third overall amongst all bowlers with a pin count of 1,769 in ten games.
All five FSU bowlers ranked amongst the Top 20 in averages.
Leslie Page Brayboy (So. – Maxton, NC) ranked 14th with a 158 average. She scored a 160 average on the first day and a 156 on the second. Her highest game was a 189 against Shaw.
Veronica Colon-Santiago (Jr. – Hope Mills, NC) also had her highest game in the second round against Shaw. She surpassed the 200-pin mark with a 206. Colon-Santiago ranked 15th with a 157.3 average.
Fayetteville State defeated its four divisional opponents with ease. The Broncos defeated Johnson C. Smith (800-655), Livingstone (804-553), Shaw (902-604), and Saint Augustine’s (838-577).
FSU had the highest pin count of 8,303. JCSU was second in the division with a 5-3 record and 6,017 pins. Virginia Union led the Northern Division with 7,466 pins and a 6-2 record.
