Richmond, VA – The Fayetteville State women’s bowling team was recently ranked No. 21 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association. After the first round of matches in the CIAA Event II, the Broncos proved its prowess against the CIAA Southern Division.
FSU closed the day with a perfect 4-0 record after obtaining a total pin count of 4,163. The Broncos defeated Johnson C. Smith (840-602), Saint Augustine’s (787-526), Livingstone (857-507), and Shaw (842-584). The Broncos had a no contest round with 837 pins.
Fayetteville State has a 1,118-pin count advantage over second-place Johnson C. Smith.
Sophomore Savannah Starling (Fayetteville, NC) led the day with the best overall performance with a 187.4 average over five games. She rolled a 214 against Livingstone and a 200 against Shaw and finished with a pin count of 937.
Brittany Worthy (So. – Durham, NC) had the second-best average of 182.2. Her 229 against the Blue Bears was the highest of all bowlers. She bowled five games and finished with 911 pins.
Leslie Paige Brayboy (So. – Maxton, NC) rounds out the Top 10 with a 160 average and 800 pins.
Fayetteville State opened the day with the 840-602 victory over Johnson C. Smith.
Ke’Aira Wilson was the top bowler for the Golden Bulls with a 138. JCSU was the most competitive against the Broncos.
The second match of the day was the uncontested BYE round.
Saint Augustine’s dropped a 787-526 match to the Broncos. FSU rolled its lowest score of the against the Falcons. Starling finished with a 182-pin count. MaKayla August was SAU’s strongest bowler with a 146, her highest of the day.
Starling and Worthy combined for 443 of the Broncos 857 pins against Livingstone. Hadiya Coates led the Blue Bears with 126 pins.
Worthy almost reached her second 200 game against Shaw University. She finished 10 pins shy of the mark.
Virginia State University is hosting the event at the Bowl America Midlothian in Richmond, Virginia. Day two of the CIAA North-South Divisional Meet II will resume on Saturday, January 27th.
