Fayetteville, NC -- The Fayetteville State University women's bowling team completed the first day of competition as host in the CIAA Divisional II at B&B Bowling Lanes with a flawless 4-0 record and 4791 total pins in team matches. The Lady Broncos defeated Livingstone College (1078-450), Johnson C. Smith (963-634), Shaw (896-616), and Saint Augustine's (900-591). FSU opened with a no contest round with 954 pins.

Fayetteville State had six 200-plus individual games, including a day one event high game of 279 from senior Jasmin Aponte (Fayetteville, NC). Freshman Savannah Starling (Fayetteville, NC) had an incredible team-high average of 217 in four games bowled (202, 247, 227, 192). Aponte averaged 212 over four games (214, 279, 164, 191).

Johnson C. Smith was the next closest team in the Southern Division with a 3-1 record and 3358 total pins. Shaw finished the first day 2-2 with 3016 total pins, followed by Saint Augustine's with 2923 pins and a 1-3 record. Livingstone concluded the day 0-4 with 2321 total pins.

Sophomore Veronica Colon-Santiago (Hope Mills, NC) averaged 190.75 over four games with a 223 game against JCSU. Freshman Brittany Worthy (Durham, NC) had a day one high of 210 with an average of 188.25 in four games rolled.

Juniors Lola Neal (Wilson, NC) and Devondra Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC), along with freshman Paige Brayboy (Maxton, NC) all turned in solid performances. Each only bowled in three matches with no score lower than 160.



Virginia State also had an unblemished 4-0 record with 4414 total pins amongst Northern competition. Bowie State completed the day 3-1 with 4332 pins, followed by Virginia Union at 2-2 (3640 pins), Chowan at 1-3 (3258 pins), and Elizabeth City State at 0-4 (3043 pins).

Day two of the CIAA North-South Divisional Meet II will resume on Saturday, January 28th at B & B Bowling Lanes located at 3003 Fort Bragg Road in Fayetteville, NC. Teams will begin to warm-up at 11:00 a.m.
