FAYETTEVILLE STATE BOWLING FINISHES 2-3 ON DAY ONE OF UNDERWOOD CLASSIC

Laurel, MD – The Fayetteville State University women’s bowling team concluded the first day of competition in the Frederick and Edwina Underwood Bowling Classic held at the AMF Laurel Lanes with a record of 2-3. The Lady Broncos had 4,134 total pins in the day one baker’s format.

FSU suffered an 853-757 loss to CIAA rival Bowie State in the first match of the day. The team rebounded with a 790-759 victory over Virginia State in the second match. Fayetteville State dropped the third match by a mere 61 pins (980-919) to the No. 10 nationally ranked Norfolk State. The Lady Broncos topped Division I Morgan State 843-831 in the fourth match. Howard (Division I) pulled out a 924-825 win against FSU in the fifth and final match of the event.

Norfolk State completed day one with a 5-0 record and a total pin count of 4,560. Morgan State and Howard both had records of 3-2 with pin counts of 4,481 and 4,466, respectively. Bowie State finished 2-3 with 4,233 total pins. Virginia State had 3,806 total pins, but had a rough 0-5 start to the competition.

“We had a long day one, but competed well against Division I teams,” said head coach Bobby Henderson. “We have to rest, regroup, and be ready to come back and bowl strong on day two.”

Fayetteville State will return to the lanes on Saturday, January 14th for the second day of the Underwood Bowling Classic. Day two will be a team format. All matches will be played at the AMF Laurel Lanes.
