Few coaches in Fayetteville State or CIAA history can claim the success of Bobby Henderson.

Henderson, who currently coaches the Broncos' record-setting bowling team, has worked in athletics at FSU for nearly 35 years. During that time, Henderson has served in nearly every capacity in FSU athletics. He was head softball coach from 1995-97, assistant softball coach from 1997-2007, assistant women's basketball coach from 1977-86, head women's basketball coach from 1979-81 and head junior varsity basketball coach from 1979-81. In addition to his prowess for coaching athletics, Henderson has dedicated his life to teaching.

He has been the Facility Director & a Lecturer in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Human Services since 1995 and is also director of FSU's Science and Mathematics Enrichment Program (NYSP). From 1996-2001 he was Director of Girl's Sports Clinics (NYSP) at FSU.

A 1977 graduate of FSU, Henderson obtained a Master's degree in Physical Education and Education from North Carolina Central University in 1982.

Despite a plethora of titles he's held at FSU, his most successful tenure has come during his nine years in charge of FSU's bowling program. The Broncos have won seven straight Western Division titles, the 2007 CIAA Championship and made an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight in 2004. Since 2004, Henderson has led the Broncos to more than 74 wins per season. In 2007, FSU won a school-record 82 matches en route to the CIAA title.

In 2010, Henderson's team set several CIAA records. The Broncos tallied 10,002 total pins for team matches final CIAA Western Division Round-up. It was the first time a CIAA team has averaged 1,000 or more pins for the weekend in team play (1000.2). FSU was the only team to finish undefeated (19-0) in Baker play in 2009. The same year, FSU became the first team to average 900 or better in team score for an entire season.

Under Henderson's leadership, 25 FSU bowlers have been named to the All-CIAA team and 10 were on the CIAA Academic Honor Roll. Bobby Henderson is married to Delores Henderson and they have one son, Robert Henderson II.
