HAMPTON, Va. -- Tashama Banner has gone back-to-back.
For the third time this season and for the second time in as many weeks, the Fayetteville State senior guard was named as the CIAA's Newcomer of the Week on Wednesday.
Banner, (Fayetteville, N.C.) a transfer from UNC Greensboro, had another sterling all-around effort in Monday night's tight loss to Mt. Olive. Banner finished with a double-double of 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds to go with four steals, which led all players.
In earning her second Newcomer award last week, Banner led the Lady Broncos (6-3) to an emphatic victory on the road at Alderson-Broaddus with an all-around performance that featured 15 points, a game-high six assists to go with six rebounds and a game-high three steals. Banner also led all players with three assists in the Lady Broncos' victory over Salem International two days later, chipping in two more steals and four rebounds.
Pressed into duty to help run the point guard position, Banner has shined in all facets of the game. She ranks third on the team in scoring with 8.4 points per game, third in rebounding with 5.9 per game and first is assists, with 2.9 per game, which is good for fifth in the CIAA. Banner also adds 2.4 steals per game.
Banner's Newcomer of the Week honor is the fourth such honor awarded to a Fayetteville State player this season. Leading scorer Akysia Resper (So., Concord, N.C.) has also garnered the nod this season.
