LAKELAND, FL - The Fayetteville State women's basketball team travels south for a pair of games against Sunshine State Conference teams beginning Friday at the Florida Southern campus.
The Lady Broncos (5-2) begin the FSC/Terrace Hotel Classic against the University of Tampa at 3 p.m. on Friday. FSU is 0-3 all-time against the Spartans, who enter play 6-2 and on a 3-game win streak.
The last time the teams met, Tampa took a 63-53 decision on Dec. 11, 2005.
On Saturday, FSU meets up with Florida Southern for the first time in program history at 1 p.m. The Mocs (4-4) enter their tournament on the heels of a two-game losing skid against the likes of No. 4 Nova Southeastern and Palm Beach Atlantic. The Lady Broncos defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 72-54 in Raleigh on Dec. 7.
Fayetteville State has won its last three games and three of its last four contests. Each of those victories came by a healthy double-digit margin, including a 77-56 win against West Virginia Wesleyan on Dec. 15 in which the Lady Broncos got four players into double-figure scoring. Amber Calvin and Akysia Resperscored 16 points apiece in that contest. Resper also recorded eight steals.
After the tournament, FSU will be off for the rest of 2013 before hosting Chowan on Jan. 2.
