FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Tashama Banner continues to impress - and take the lead in running the Lady Broncos' offense.

The transfer from UNC Greensboro won her second CIAA Newcomer of the Week award this season after another sterling effort in pacing Fayetteville State to two victories on the road last week.

Banner led the Lady Broncos (6-2) to an emphatic victory on the road at Alderson-Broaddus with an all-around performance that featured 15 points, a game-high six assists to go with six rebounds and a game-high three steals. Banner also led all players with three assists in the Lady Broncos' victory over Salem International two days later, chipping in two more steals and four rebounds.

Pressed into duty to help run the point guard position, Banner has shined in all facets of the game. She ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 7.9 points per game, fourth in rebounding with 5.4 per game and first is assists, with 3.1 per game, which is good for fourth in the CIAA.

Banner's Newcomer of the Week honor is the third such honor awarded to a Fayetteville State player this season. Leading scorer Akysia Resper (So., Concord, N.C.) has also garnered the nod this season.

Banner leads the Lady Broncos, who are off to their best start to a season in at least five years, into Monday night's game against Mt. Olive. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
