FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Fayetteville State guard Kristen Hanzer (Sr., Youngsville, NC) has been selected as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Newcomer of the Week for her performance last week in back-to-back road victories over Paine and West Virginia Wesleyan, it was announced today by the league office. Hanzer earns her third weekly honor of the season, and first Newcomer of the Week recognition, after being named CIAA Player of the Week on Nov. 12 and Nov. 19.

Hanzer tied for the team-lead in scoring last week at 16 points per game and led the team with eight steals in two games played. She scored 25 points in a 90-79 road victory at West Virginia Wesleyan, which now gives her 20 or more points in three games this season. She also had nine rebounds, three assists and six steals against West Virginia Wesleyan and shot 50% (13-for-26) from the field. 

She leads Fayetteville State, and is second in the CIAA, this season in scoring at 21.8 points per game and posts a .554 shooting percentage (41-of-74) from the field. Hanzer is averaging 6.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. She scored a career-high 35 points in a 90-88 win at Catawba, and followed with 24 points in a 72-70 loss to UNC Pembroke. In the three contests in which she has scored double-digit points, Hanzer is shooting 50% or better from the floor in each of them.
