HAMPTON, VA - Fayetteville State guard Kristen Hanzer
has made an immediate impact to the start of the season; not only for the basketball team, but in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as well. The junior from Youngsville, NC has been selected as the CIAA Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after her performance against Catawba and UNC Pembroke.
Hanzer led Fayetteville State in scoring last week as she averaged 29.5 points per game on 21-of-38 shooting from the field. She was 88% at the free-throw line, making 15-for-17. Hanzer grabbed 11 total rebounds while recording eight assists, eight steals and two blocked shots.
Kristen scored a career-high 35 points in a 90-88 come-from-behind win at Catawba. She shot 64% (14-of-22) from the field and made both of her three-pointers while going 5-for-6 (83%) from the free-throw line. Hanzer also had five rebounds, five steals and four assists against the Indians. She followed that performance with 24 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks against UNC Pembroke. She shot 44% (7-for-16) from the field against the Braves and 90% (10-for-11) at the free-throw line.
