FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State women’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak to three games to start the season as it entertains the UNC Pembroke Braves on Saturday with a 2 p.m. matchup at Felton J. Capel Arena.

UNC Pembroke and Fayetteville State will meet for the 26th time on Saturday afternoon. The Braves will bring a 16-9 all-time series lead into the contest, including a two-game win streak. The Lady Braves earned a 64-57 victory the last time the two teams met on the hardwood.

DeDe Cotten led three players in double figures as UNC Pembroke used a couple of second-half runs to hand the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos their first loss of the season, 64-57, on Tuesday night. Cotten, who buried four 3-pointers to go with six rebounds and four assists, shared the team lead in scoring with Domonique Washington, as each scored 14 points while Courtney Bolden had 13 as the Lady Braves (2-2) won their home opener.

The Lady Broncos (2-0) have opened the season with back-to-back wins over Barber-Scotia and Catawba. FSU’s offense has scored 90 points in each of its first two games this season, which has included a 22-point comeback on Nov. 13 at Catawba. UNC Pembroke enters the contest with a 1-2 overall record. The Lady Braves dropped their first two contests of the season against Newberry and Wingate before defeating St. Andrews.

Kristen Hanzer (Sr., Youngsville, NC) scored a team-high 35 points in Fayetteville State’s last contest against Catawba and is averaging 26.5 points per game. Shuanda Ashford (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) and Akysia Resper (Jr., Concord, NC) are also averaging double-digit points this season for the Lady Broncos. Ashford is averaging 15.0 points and a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per game. Resper has a 12.0 points per game clip and is dishing out 6.0 assists per contest.

UNC Pembroke’s offense is led by Jazmine Kemp as she averages 13.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Amelia Partin also averages 11.7 points per game for the Lady Braves.

Fayetteville State will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 20 when it travels to Augusta, GA to face Paine College.
