FSU Broncos' Yakima Clifton Selected Preseason All-CIAA

Charlotte, NC - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and its Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced Fayetteville State's Yakima Clifton to the 2017-18 Preseason All-CIAA Team. The association also predicted the Broncos women's basketball team to finish ninth overall and fifth in the Southern Division.

Yakima Clifton, a junior from Durham, North Carolina, led the Broncos with an average of 10.3 points and 7.5 rebounds in 24 games with 11 starts. Leading the team with 33 blocks, she scored the second most points with 246. She shot 68% (51-75) from the free throw line and 41% (97-236) from the field.
Clifton recorded a season-best 17 points and 13 rebounds while producing three double-doubles on the year.

Head Coach Serena King-Coleman will begin her second season with a rejuvenated squad.

Breona Jones (Henderson, NC) returns for her senior season after averaging 9.8 points per game with a team-high 256 points. Courtney Best (Raleigh, NC) and Jamesha Mosley, a transfer from Kentucky State, will join Jones as a trio of seniors.

Shantel Bennett (Clayton, NC) was named to the 2016-17 CIAA All-Rookie Team last season. Bennett played in 25 games and started in 16 during her debut season with the Broncos. She had averages of 7.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Bennett scored double figures in eight games, including a high of 19 points against Shaw (Feb. 15th). She shot 32% (55-173) from the floor and 79% (66-84) from the free throw line.

Fayetteville State will host Bronco Frenzy on Monday, October 16th immediately following the FSU-Winston-Salem State volleyball game. The event will be the official kickoff to FSU's basketball seasons. The women's team will open the season on November 11th at UNC Pembroke at 2 pm.
