June 13, 2007 Fayetteville, NC -- Fayetteville State University women's basketball head coach Eric Tucker is pleased with the new additions for the 2007-08 season. A 6-foot-2 transfer from Charleston Southern University in Charleston, SC; Randi Watts, who attended J.H. Rose High School where she was a Coastal Conference All-Conference selection and won the 2006 Most Improved award. Also, Sherese Taft, a 6-foot-1 transfer from Dodge City Comm. College in Dodge City, KS. Taft attended Leesburg High School in Leesburg, FL where she is the school's all-time leader in scoring and rebounds. Those will be big additions to the 2007-08 class; Coach Tucker will have more size to better match-up against opponents like Bowie State University and Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings. Joining the Lady Broncos in the backcourt is L'Oreal Price; a 5'8 guard transfer from UNC-Pembroke. Price attended Southeast Raleigh High School where she averaged 12.5 points, 8.3 assists, four rebounds and five steals per game in helping to lead the Bulldogs to their third-straight sectional championship and second-straight regional final. Two teammates from Largo High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Brittany Hollins and Rachel Barnes will be incoming freshmen at FSU. In their senior campaigns, Hollins average 15.1 ppg and Barnes averaged 16.5 ppg and made 49 3-pointers. Adding two proven scorers to a team that was ranked second in scoring this past season (81.4 ppg) in NCAA Division II could be lethal against opponents for the upcoming season. Hollins and Barnes led Largo High School to the state championship this year. The Lady Broncos were first in the nation in steals this past season (19.5 spg), and hopefully incoming recruit Paris Best will help keep them in that position. Best, a 5'11 forward from Southwest Guilford High School had 84 steals in her senior season, scored her 1,000th career point in the third game of the 2006-07 season, and was named All-Conference, All-County, and All-Northwest Region for the 2006-07 season. Douglas Byrd High School standout, Amanda Owens will also join the Lady Broncos for the 2007-08 Season. Owens led all Cumberland County Girls in scoring this past season, averaging 21.8 ppg. "We are very excited to have these young ladies join our program," Tucker said of the incoming class. "It is a good feeling to have this much potential talent. We strive to have student-athletes that can be productive on-and-off the court." Three players that were red-shirted this past season, but have the opportunity to be major contributors this season are; Tiffany Haywood, October Harris, and Saybah Sammy. Haywood averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game in her senior season at E.E. Smith High. Harris averaged 16 points and six rebounds per game her senior season and Sammy averaged 12 points and 12 rebounds per game and led her high school to a state championship her senior season.
