FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Fayetteville State guard Kristen Hanzer (Sr., Youngsville, NC) has been named to the Daktronics Division II Women’s Basketball All-Atlantic Region First Team it was announced today. Hanzer earns the honor after recording one of the best single-season offensive performances in program history. She was the only player from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association to be recognized on the team.

The All-Region Team acknowledgment for Hanzer is her fourth award of this postseason. This season, the transfer from UNC Wilmington became the first Lady Bronco since 1983 to be named CIAA Player of the Year while also garnering All-Conference and All-Tournament Team honors. She led the Lady Broncos in scoring at 18.2 points per game in her only season with the team. Hanzer also averaged 6.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game; and scored in double figures 25 times. She recorded a career-high 35 points in FSU’s 90-88 victory at Catawba on Nov. 13, 2012.

Fayetteville State tallied the second-most wins in school history this season after going 24-5 overall and 14-2 in conference play. The 14 conference victories are third-best in the history of FSU Women’s Basketball dating back to joining the CIAA in 1953-54. The Lady Broncos finished the season ranked 22nd nationally in the USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.

West Liberty’s Hillary Southworth was named the Atlantic Region Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.  Southworth averaged 24.1 points per game this season and ranked second in the country for scoring.

Southworth and Hanzer are joined on the First Team by Ginny Mills (Glenville State), Aurielle Mosley (Millersville) and Kaitlin Snyder (Fairmont State). The Second Team consisted of Samantha Blazetic (Edinboro), Kiara Brown (Edinboro), Katie Gattuso (Seton Hill), Hannah Heeter (Clarion) and Jen Papich (Gannon).
