INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee announced today the field of 64 teams for the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship. Twenty-two conferences have been awarded automatic qualification. The committee selected the remaining 42 teams at-large. In the Atlantic Region, Fayetteville State University was selected to receive an at-large berth. Eight regional tournaments, consisting of eight teams each, will be conducted at campus sites March 13, 14 and 16. California University of Pennsylvania will host the Atlantic Region as the #1 seed. The sixth seeded Lady Broncos (19-7) will face the third seeded Gannon University (24-4). CIAA Champion Johnson C. Smith University (7th Seed) will play against #2 Indiana (PA) while #4 Charleston (WV) face off against #5 Millersville. California (PA) will take on #8 District of Columbia. This will be the Lady Broncos' fifth trip to the NCAA Regional's. Fayetteville State played in the first round of the 2005 Mid-Atlantic Region against Carson-Newman. FSU went to the regions in back-to-back seasons in 2001 and 2002. Head Coach Eric Tucker led the women's basketball program to its first NCAA Post-season appearance in 1997. Earlier in the season, the Lady Broncos defeated #1 California (PA) and #4 Charleston (WV) during the Bahamas' Sunshine Shootout Tournament.
