Charlotte, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association women’s basketball coaches’ and sports information director’s association named Fayetteville State’s head coach Serena King-Coleman the Week #14 Coach of the Week and senior point guard Breona Jones the Player of the Week.

Prior to the beginning of Serena King-Coleman’s second season at the helm of the Broncos basketball program, FSU was predicted to finish 9th overall in the CIAA and 5th in the Southern Division. Since its loss to Bowie State University on January 8th, the Broncos have been on a roll with ten (10) consecutive wins. FSU is currently tied with the fourth best conference record of 9-5. The Broncos defeated Winston-Salem State, 61-58, this past Saturday to remain unbeaten (8-0) in the Division.

Fayetteville State leads conference play in field goal percentages (46.0%) and ranks third in assists per game (14.1).

Breona Jones (Henderson, NC) has been playing a major role in the Broncos win-streak. This past week, Jones lit up her former institution (Elizabeth City State) with a 20-point performance. She made 57.1% of her field goals and 3-pointers, making 8-of-14 shots from the floor which includes 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. FSU defeated the Vikings 64-58. Jones closed out the week with a total of 33 points after scoring 13 in the win over WSSU. She also had five assists against the Rams.

The last time Fayetteville State enjoyed wearing the CIAA Southern Division Crown was in 2014 when the Broncos shared the title with Shaw. FSU received the South’s No. 1 seed in the tournament.

After sweeping Winston-Salem State on Saturday, FSU is on track to claim its 12th CIAA Divisional title and No. 1 seed heading into next week’s tournament bracket. The Broncos hold a two-game lead over No. 2 Winston-Salem State and a three-game advantage over No. 3 Johnson C. Smith.

The Broncos travel to Shaw University on Wednesday and host Saint Augustine’s on Saturday for Senior Day.
