FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- The Fayetteville State women's basketball team got a little more rest than it planned for prior to Saturday's contest against Winston-Salem State. But after snow pushed back Wednesday's scheduled contest at Livingstone, the Lady Broncos are back in action against the Lady Rams at 1 pm.

Fayetteville State will try to erase the memories of its loss to Johnson C. Smith when it takes on WSSU, a team the Lady Broncos topped 62-59 in Pikeville, NC, on January 25.

For the second straight year, the Lady Broncos have started conference play out hot. The Lady Broncos are 9-3 against CIAA foes and have won six games in a row. Last year, FSU won its first seven games and finished 14-2 in the CIAA before advancing to the conference championship.

Amber Calvin (Fayetteville, NC) continues to be among the CIAA's best scorers. Her 15.2 points per game rank second in the league.

Deja Middleton (Richmond, VA) recorded her 10th double-double of the season, a 21-point, 16-rebound game against Shaw on February 5. She ranks first in the CIAA with 11.1 rebounds per game.

Akysia Resper (Concord, NC) is fifth in the league in assists (3.8 per game) and second in steals (59).

The Lady Rams are under the direction of second-year head coach A.G. Hall. Hall has guided WSSU to a 13-9 mark this season.

Jasmine Elum leads the Lady Rams and is fourth in the CIAA in scoring at 15.1 points per game. She scored a season-high 25 points at Elon on November 8 and scored 23 in the first meeting between these teams.

Dionna Scott is one of the league's best shooters, hitting 49.1 percent of her shots this season. She is also averaging double-figure scoring. She scores 11 points per game.

FSU has won the last three meetings in this series and holds a 38-27 lead in the all-time series.

Against Johnson C. Smith, FSU got ahead early but couldn't pretend the Golden Bulls from mounting a home rally. A once-12-point Lady Broncos lead was erased in the second half. FSU's attempt at a rally fell short, and Johnson C. Smith escaped with a 60-57 win.

De' Aira Smith (Godwn, NC) paced the Lady Broncos with 14 points. Calvin scored 13 points, while Middleton contributed nine points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Broncos are in their 62nd season as a program and have compiled an all-time record of 596-402 and 340-244 record in the CIAA. Since joining the CIAA in 1953-54, Fayetteville State has tallied ten 20-win seasons including a school-record 25 in 1996-97. FSU has made five NCAA Division II Playoff appearances with the last coming in 2009-10.

After this contest, FSU goes on the road for a rematch with Livingstone at 5:30 pm on Monday.
