HAMPTON, VA – Fayetteville State guard Kristen Hanzer (Sr., Youngsville, NC) was recognized this afternoon for the second straight week by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. She was named the CIAA Newcomer of the Week after receiving Player of the Week honors on Feb. 4. Hanzer scored 18 points in FSU’s 81-48 win on Saturday against Johnson C. Smith.

The 5-10 transfer from UNC Wilmington was the second-leading scorer in Fayetteville State’s rout of CIAA Southern Division opponent Johnson C. Smith at Felton J. Capel Arena. Hanzer finished the game with nine steals, five rebounds, two blocks and two assists. She was successful on 8 of her 16 attempts from the field in 33 minutes of action. Hanzer picked up 10 of her 18 points in the second half to go with five steals.

She leads the team, and is second in the conference, in scoring at 18.7 points per game while ranking fifth in field-goal percentage at 47.7. Hanzer is tied for 19th nationally in points per game. She also contributes 6.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

Hanzer will look to lead the 25th-ranked Lady Broncos to their fifth straight victory on Wednesday evening when they host Livingstone at 5:30 p.m. in what has been tabbed the “CIAA Marquee Matchup of the Week.”
