FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State women’s basketball team has jumped into the USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll for the first time this season. The Lady Broncos enter the poll ranked 25th with 74 total points. Under Head Coach Eva Patterson-Heath, FSU is ranked for the first time through USA Today Sports.
Fayetteville State currently holds an 18-3 overall record and 10-1 conference mark. FSU is tied for first in the CIAA Southern Division standings with a 4-1 record. The Lady Broncos are riding a three-game winning streak heading into their weekend tilt against Johnson C. Smith.
Fayetteville State logged a 2-0 record last week highlighted by a 66-64 road victory against the Shaw Lady Bears. Shaw was ranked ninth in the poll but dropped to 15th after the loss.
The Lady Broncos possess one of the top offenses both nationally and within the conference. Fayetteville State ranks in the nation’s top 25 in scoring offense averaging 73.0 points per game. The Lady Broncos are second to Shaw offensively.
Ashland earned the top spot in the poll after garnering all 32 first-place votes and 800 total points. Nova Southeastern, another ranked team FSU defeated earlier this season, is ranked 20th in the poll.
Fayetteville State will host Johnson C. Smith at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 in Felton J. Capel Arena.
