Amber Calvin has been named the league's Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season

HAMPTON, VA- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Sports Information Directors Association have announced their selections for CIAA Women's Basketball Player, Newcomer, Rookie and Coach of the Week. Fayetteville State's Amber Calvin and De' Aira Smith were each recognized for their play in an 81-74 victory against St. Augustine's on February 1.

Amber Calvin (Fayetteville, NC), the league's Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season, played all 40 minutes and scored a season-high 30 points in the victory. That ups her scoring average to 15.6 points per game this season, the second-highest figure in the CIAA.

De' Aira Smith (Godwin, NC) was chosen CIAA Rookie of the Week after a 12-point performance in which she shot 5-of-9 from the floor. For the season, Smith is averaging 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Lincoln (PA) guard Cynthia Johnson was named CIAA Player of the Week, while Virginia State's James Hill, Jr. received Coach of the Week accolades.
