Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State University and the Lady Bronco Basketball team will host a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone game on Saturday, February 20, 2010. The Pink Zone, (formerly known as "Think Pink") began in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, served as the catalyst for the initiative after her third reoccurrence of breast cancer in 2006. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success. For more information about this initiative please visit www.wbca.org.

We would be honored if you would attend the FSU's Pink Zone initiative basketball game. This year's event is especially important to our campus community because a donation from each ticket sale will be made to the Donice Maria Harbor Endowment Fund.

A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Donice received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from Fayetteville State University and her Masters degree in Public Administration from North Carolina Central University. While in graduate school, Donice began her career in public service as a Legislative Intern with the late Senator Jeanne Lucas. In 2001, Donice began working with then Lt. Governor Bev Perdue as Director of Public Liaison. In 2009, when Perdue was elected to the office of Governor, Donice became the Governor's Director of Faith and Citizens Outreach. This summer Donice lost her battle with breast cancer. She was 36 years old. Just prior to her death Donice and her mother established a scholarship fund here at Fayetteville State University. Once the fund is endowed, a scholarship will be given annually to a student with an interest in government and public service.

Following are the ways that you may support this event:

1.  The first 25 breast cancer survivors who express interest in attending the game will receive a free ticket, special seating in the Chancellor's section during the game, be recognized during half-time and invited to a half-time reception hosted by Chancellor and Mrs. Anderson. If you are interested in attending, please send an email to edickens@uncfsu.edu  or call 910-672-2101. The deadline is February 12th.

2.  Purchase a ticket to the game for a breast cancer survivor. Breast cancer survivors will be honored at half-time and invited to a half-time reception hosted by Chancellor and Mrs. Anderson. The cost is $15 and includes admission to both games. $3 from each sale will be donated to the Donice Maria Harbor Endowment. Tickets may be purchased online or at the Fayetteville State University Ticket Office located in the Seabrook Auditorium, room 104. Once you purchase the ticket(s), please provide the name of the breast cancer survivor and their guest to Emily Dickens at edickens@uncfsu.edu  or call 910-672-2101 so that your survivor may be honored at half-time and receive directions to the reception.
