FAYETTEVILLE STATE AVENGES EARLIER DEFEAT TO LADY BLUE BEARS WITH A 79-49 THRASHING
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Fayetteville State (20-3 overall |12-1 CIAA | 6-1 division) had two things on its mind with its rematch with the Lady Blue Bears. Avenge a January loss (78-83) to Livingstone and remain in the top spot of the CIAA Southern Division. With 13 days left until the opening round of the CIAA Tournament, FSU has a one-game lead over Shaw (5-2 Div.) and a two-game lead over St. Augustine's (4-3 Div.). The Lady Broncos completed both tasks with a 79-49 thrashing of Livingstone (7-15 | 3-10 | 1-6) in Felton J. Capel Arena where Fayetteville State boasts a 10-1 record.

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Fayetteville State University women's basketball team has won its last two games in completely different ways. An epic comeback against Bowie State preceded a thrashing of Johnson C. Smith on Saturday. Against Livingstone at 4 pm on Wednesday, the Lady Broncos aim for another win - however they can get it.

The game will be streamed live, along with all other home basketball doubleheaders, at FSUBroncos.com/allaccess.

The Lady Broncos (12-4 overall, 5-2 CIAA, 1-0 Southern Division) had the Johnson C. Smith game firmly in control well before half. When the teams did finally get to the halftime break, FSU had a 33-11 lead and was well on its way to the victory.

Bria Robinson (Charlotte, NC) had her third consecutive game with at least seven points and seven rebounds. A valuable piece off the FSU bench, Robinson went for 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting. She also collected nine rebounds.

Deja Middleton (Richmond, VA) also was a dual force, collecting nine points and eight rebounds. Freshman De' Aira Smith (Godwin, NC) led the Lady Broncos with 13 points.

FSU shot 41.2 percent (21-of-52) for the game.

Middleton continues to lead the conference in rebounding, at 10.9 per contest. She scores 13.0 points per contest and is one of two Lady Broncos averaging double-figure scoring.

Amber Calvin is averaging 14.7 points per game, third-best in the conference. She is also the CIAA's fifth-best 3-point shooter (29.4 percent) and third-best foul shooter (84.5 percent).

Livingstone (9-8, 4-3, 0-1) enters this one fresh off a 96-71 loss against Shaw University. That loss snapped what had been a period of four wins in five games.

Cierra York is the fourth-highest scorer in the conference, averaging 14.5 points per contest. York has stepped it up even further in conference play, where she averages 15.7 points.

Taylor Daniels is the eighth-best rebounder in the league, averaging 7.7 rebounds per game.

Fayetteville State has controlled the all-time series between these two teams, winning 50 of 67 meetings. The Lady Broncos split two meetings last year.

The Lady Broncos are in their 62nd season as a program and have compiled an all-time record of 592-401 and 336-243 record in the CIAA. Since joining the CIAA in 1953-54, Fayetteville State has tallied ten 20-win seasons including a school-record 25 wins in 1996-97. FSU has made five NCAA Division II Playoff appearances with the last coming in 2009-10.

After this game, the Lady Broncos go to Aycock HS in Goldsboro, NC, to play Winston-Salem State at 5 pm on Saturday. FSU returns home to play Shaw at 4 pm on Jan. 29.
