CALVIN NAMED CIAA'S NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK

HAMPTON, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in conjunction with the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association announced their selections for CIAA Women's Basketball Player, Newcomer, Rookie and Coach of the Week on Monday evening.

Amber Calvin was selected the conference's Newcomer of the Week for her offensive performance. She averaged 20.7 points per contest in three games and shot 42.2 percent from the field while averaging three 3-pointers per game.

Calvin followed up a 19-point game against Elizabeth City State with a 22-point contest at Lincoln (PA) and a 21-point game at Virginia Union. Those contests helped vault her to third in the league's scoring race with a season average of 15.0 points per game.

After a 19-point game against Bowie State on Monday, she climbed the scoring list even higher. She now sits at 15.3 points per game, second best in the entire league.

Virginia Union's Ashle Freeman was named CIAA Player of the Week, Chowan's Ryjae Anderson got Rookie of the Week and Johnson C. Smith's Stephen Joyner Jr. was the CIAA Coach of the Week.
