Hampton, VA - Two Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos were recognized for their performances on the basketball court for the week ending January 14, 2008 by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and named Player and Rookie of the week respectively.
Leticia Dickson was named CIAA Women's Player of the Week for the talent showcased during the Lady Broncos three game home stretch. Dickson averaged 25.3 points per game during the three game series, and led FSU to a 2-1 finish for the week.
The senior, point guard from Smithfield, NC has been the leading scorer for Fayetteville State in their past five contests and scored 20 or more points in their last three games. Dickson's best game was against Virginia Union University, where she contributed 28 points (including five 3-pointers), seven rebounds, and three assists to the Lady Broncos' 69-58 victory over VUU.
Teammate Erica Gilley has been acknowledged by the conference as the CIAA Women's Rookie of the Week. In a two-game span, Gilley has added 23 points, 19 rebounds, and six steals to the Lady Broncos' production. Gilley was injured in the contest against Virginia State University and was prohibited from participating in FSU's third home game this week against Johnson C. Smith University.
Gilley, a 5-11, freshman forward from Lexington, NC also had her best performance against Virginia Union University. The East Carolina University transfer had 16 points, nine rebounds, four steals, and three assists in the win over the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Broncos return to action Tuesday, January 15th against Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA; tip-off is scheduled to take place at 5:30 pm.
