Fayetteville State Falls to Undefeated Virginia State 70-57

Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State's women's basketball team faced a challenge in its 70-57 loss to Virginia State University.

The Broncos have lost its second conference game with the absence of its head coach Serena King-Coleman. Coach is away in Kentucky dealing with funeral arrangements for her mother.

The undefeated Trojans (11-0, 2-0 CIAA) utilized a 15-6 second period to run away with its second conference victory.

The Broncos (4-5 overall, 0-2 CIAA) was coached by assistant Tyreece Brown. Yakima Clifton (Durham, NC) led the effort with 14 points while Jamesha Mosley (Oak Grove, KY) followed with 11.

Four Trojans finished with double-digit scoring. Alexis Smith led the game with 18 points and Mia Fitts had the second highest with 15. Dionna Marcus and Chrisanna Green both finished with a double-double of ten (10) points and rebounds.

FSU committed 25 personal fouls in an attempt to match the Trojans intensity. FSU pulled down ten (10) offensive rebounds and trailed the Trojans on the boards 39-33. The limited offensive boards shorted the Broncos second-chance opportunities.

FSU finished with a better shooting percentage than Virginia State (42.4% - 36.4%), but the Broncos only made seven (7) trips to the free throw line.

Virginia State led by as many as 20 in the fourth period with 4:47 remaining in the game. The aggressiveness of VSU led to 21 points off turnovers with their 17 steals.
