Baltimore, MD - The Fayetteville State University women's basketball suffered an 81-54 non-conference, road loss to Morgan State University on Saturday afternoon inside Hill Field house. The Lady Broncos drop to 3-3 on the season, while Morgan State improves to 8-1 in the standings.

With the exception of a 2-2 tie early in the first half, the Lady Broncos trailed for the entire contest. The Lady Bears lead by as much 17 in the initial period. Down 32-15 with 5:22 remaining, FSU went on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to cut their deficit to six. Morgan State would hit three free throws before the half came to a close. But a three-pointer at the buzzer by junior guard Danielle Russell sent Fayetteville State into the locker room down 35-29.

The Lady Bears shot 35.5% from the field (11-of-31) and 44% behind the three-pointer line (4-of-9). Brittany Dodson and Corin Adams were the leading scorers for MSU in the first half with 12 and nine points, respectively. FSU shot a dismal 29% from the floor (11-of-37) and only connected on one three-pointer out of four attempts.

Morgan State outscored the Lady Broncos 22-5 in the first nine minutes of the second half. FSU never recovered from their scoring drought. MSU pushed the lead to 29 in the closing seconds before wrapping up the victory, 81-54.

FSU was 21-of-82 from the field throughout the contest (25.6%). The Lady Bears shot 42.4% (25-of-59) for the game and hit 10 of their 23 three-pointers attempted. Despite the loss, Fayetteville State out-rebounded MSU 54-to-47, forced 26 turnovers, and won the battle in steals 16-to-10.

Adams had a game-high 22 points, while Dodson finished with 19 points and three rebounds. Guard Stacy Hunt chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds for MSU.

Junior guard Tressa Aughburns finished one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high 12 points and nine rebounds. Junior Chelsea Jeter had an 11-point, eight rebound contribution for the Lady Broncos.

 

 

Fayetteville State returns to the court on Sunday, December 14th when they face the Firebird Women from the University of the District of Columbia. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm inside the Physical Activities Center. UDC is led by sophomore center Lillian McGill, who averages 15.6 ppg. The team as a whole averages 72.1 ppg.
