Fayetteville State University got its first look at its CIAA sister school Elizabeth City State in a non-conference matchup, as part of the FSU Broncos Thanksgiving Classic. Fellow members Saint Augustine's and Chowan tipped off the Classic with the Hawks defeating the Falcons, 85-64. FSU (3-2 overall) cruised, in like-fashion, to a 79-53 win over the Vikings.

Shantel Bennett (Sanford, NC) and Yakima Clifton (Durham, NC) led the way for the Broncos with 16 points apiece. Clifton finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds.

Devona Stell led the ECSU Vikings (2-3 overall) with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.

FSU forced 26 turnovers which contributed to 29 points. After a tied 14-14 first quarter, the Broncos seized a 38-30 halftime lead. Fayetteville State led by as many as 28 points with 2:19 remaining in the game.

Elizabeth City State jumped to a quick five-point lead (13-8) following the first media timeout of the game. Fayetteville State evened the score after ECSU turned the ball over three times and had unproductive trips down the court.

After the third tie of the game (18-18), FSU grabbed a lead that they wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the night. Clifton hit her first points of the game, which was a three-pointer with 7:07 left in the half. Bennett followed with her second score, which was also a three-point field goal.

ECSU would close within one (24-23) but the 11-6 rebounding advantage by the Broncos would help FSU to an eight-point halftime lead.

Fayetteville State dominated the third period with 12 points off turnovers, 22 points in the paint and six second-chance points. FSU pushed to a 20-point lead (55-35) with 3:28 left in the quarter.

The Broncos sailed in the fourth quarter as Clifton knocked down ten of her 16 points.

Fayetteville State will host Chowan tomorrow at 4 pm in the final game of the classic.
