Erie, PA - Seton Hill (23-7 overall) will advance to the next round of the NCAA DII Atlantic Region Tournament after defeating Fayetteville State 73-64. The Griffins made 14 of 28 three-pointers to stay ahead of the Broncos comeback efforts. L'oreal Price led FSU (20-10 overall) with 16 points while Tiffany Haywood followed with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Deja Middleton also finished in double figures with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Seton Hill led at intermission 35-33. Fayetteville State received first possession but missed its first shot and on the rebound turned the ball over. Seton Hill made a 10-2 run in the first three-and-a-half minutes in the game for a 12-2 lead. Fayetteville State responded with a 10-0 run to tie the game at 12-all. The Lady Broncos would lead by as much as five points in the first half until the sixth tie of the half at the 2:31 mark. After back-to-back three-pointers and a pair of free throws, Seton Hill was back on top by eight points and the halftime lead. By way of three-pointers, Seton Hill controlled the lead for the majority of the second half. SHU made 8-of-13 threes in the half and had a seven-point lead with 13:47 on the clock. Fayetteville State erased the deficit and had its only lead (51-50) of the second half with 8:09 left in the game. After the one-point lead, Seton Hill hit five three-pointers for a nine-point lead with 1:06 left in the game. Made free throws excelled the Griffins to its largest lead of the game (11 points) with 12 seconds remaining. Seton Hill made a season high 14 three pointers and tied its percentage of 50% from beyond the arc. Shooting 40% (23-of-57) from the field, the Griffins made 13-of-17 free throws for 76.5%. Jordan Burkes led the game with 19 points. Fayetteville State had a season low 12 turnovers but shot 33.8% (25-of-74) from the field and made 4-of-20 three-pointers (20%). FSU out-rebounded Seton Hill 50-38. The Broncos had 14 more second chance opportunities with a 24-10 offensive rebounds advantage. FSU also had one less turnover. Only four Lady Broncos scored in double-figures.
The Broncos will now return home to enjoy a conference championships and begin preparations for next year. |
