Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State (18-7 overall, 12-5 CIAA) committed every error they could possibly make a 79-69 loss the Lady Golden Bulls in Capel Arena. The Lady Broncos went scoreless until 12:42 when center Tiffany Haywood (Fayetteville, NC) scored FSU's first basket of the game. By this time, Johnson C. Smith (16-10 overall 12-6 CIAA) had a 15-point lead. The lead would drop to eight with 5:19 remaining in the half but eased itself to 13 (38-25) by intermission.
Johnson C. Smith held its biggest lead of 17 points with 16:20 remaining in the game until the combination of L'Oreal Price and Chelsea Jeter decreased the gap down to seven with 8:18 to go. Fayetteville State could get no closer than seven, with 5:45 on the clock, as the Lady Golden Bulls ran away with the game.
Chelsea Jeter (Baltimore, MD), a junior on the playing court but a senior in the classroom, scored 15 points and had five rebounds in her last game in Capel Arena. Erica Gilley (Lexington, NC) led the team with 17 points. The CIAA Player of the Week, L'Oreal Price (Raleigh, NC), finished the game with 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Danielle Russell was the only other Lady Bronco to finish in double-figures with ten points. FSU was 41.5% from the floor and 63% from the line.
JCSU had a better shooting percentage of 45.6% and free throw percentage of 64.9%. The Lady Golden Bulls had more rebounds (45-34). Three players from Johnson C. Smith scored in double-figures: Wendy Stywalt (20), Demetria Bell (15), and Terran Quattlebaum (14).
Fayetteville State will travel to Salisbury, NC on Thursday, January 19 for its final divisional game versus Livingstone College.
