SALISBURY, NC -  It took an extra five minutes for Fayetteville State to prevail, but the Lady Broncos did just that, topping Livingstone 92-84 on Monday to stay atop the Southern Division. The victory in New Trent Gymnasium improves FSU to 18-5 overall, 11-3 in the CIAA and 7-1 in the division.

Amber Calvin (Fayetteville, NC) led with a game high 32 points; which came from six three-pointers and a perfect ten made free-throws. Deja Middleton (Richmond, VA) finished with another double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds. Akysia Resper (Concord, NC) also scored 16 points and was 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. Bria Robinson(Charlotte, NC) recorded 10 rebounds.

Livingstone started the game on a 10-3 run. The Lady Blue Bears kept that lead until a 17-4 Lady Broncos run made it 31-24 with 5:35 to go in the first half.

Je' Lena Robertson (Houston, TX) hit a jumper with 52 seconds left to give FSU a 37-34 halftime lead.

After the break, Livingstone responded with an 8-2 run to grab a 42-39 lead. The Lady Blue Bears stretched that lead to 60-52 with 9:35 to go. LC extended its lead to 72-58 with 5:28 to play.

From there, the Lady Broncos made a furious comeback. Trailing 76-65 with 2:47 to play, FSU cut it to 76-75 with 20 seconds to play in regulation.

Livingstone's Ashley Walker converted one of two free throws with seven seconds left, but Calvin hit a layup with two seconds left to play to send the game into overtime at 77-77.

In the overtime period, Livingstone sprinted out to an 81-79 lead before FSU gained control. From there, Calvin hit a 3-pointer to spark a run and a one-point advantage. The Lady Broncos run stretched its lead by eight (90-82) with 33 seconds left to play. A pair of Amber Calvin'sfree throws preserved the eight-point advantage.


 

 

FSU remains one game up against Shaw, the team it'll see Wednesday at 5:30 pm in Raleigh.

The Lady Broncos had a big advantage in points off turnovers, outscoring Livingstone 29-14 on miscues despite only forcing four more turnovers. For the game, FSU shot 28-of-80 (35.0 percent) from the floor. Livingstone was slightly better (32-of-69, 46.4 percent) but had 11 fewer attempts. The Lady Broncos were 29-of-33 from the free throw line (87.9 percent) and out-rebounded the Lady Blue Bears 49-46.

FSU edged Livingstone in points in the paint (34-32), fast-break points (14-8) and bench points (14-8). The teams were even (17-17) on second-chance points.

The Lady Broncos outscored Livingstone 15-7 in the overtime period.

Taylor Daniels led the Lady Blue Bears with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds. Tiffany Evans followed with 23 points while Cierra York followed with 20. Wende Foster had 15 rebounds.
