Salisbury, NC - The CIAA Basketball Tournament is right around the corner. The FSU Broncos have two more weeks until the tournament seedings are announced. The Fayetteville State women's program is vying for the CIAA Southern Division Title and a chance for the covenant conference crown.

FSU (12-9 Overall, 7-5 CIAA, 7-0 Division) advanced one step closer today with its eighth consecutive win with a 91-59 win over Livingstone College (5-16 Overall, 0-11 CIAA, 0-5 Division).

The divisional leader went right to work from jump ball with a 10-0 run over the Blue Bears. Fayetteville State continued to dominate the game taking a 23-11 first period and 47-31 halftime lead. FSU led by as much as 32 points before the game expired.

Shantel Bennett (Sanford, NC) led the way with 15 points and 6 assists. Noni Kuumba (Tracy, CA) finished with a total of 13 points.  Breona Jones (Henderson, NC) and Chinwendu Maduegbunam (Charlotte, NC) scored a dozen points each.

Fayetteville State scored 48 points in the paint compared to the Blue Bears 18. FSU forced 26 turnovers with 12 steals and converted the TO's into 28 points.

I'keya Bland led Livingstone with a game-high 20 points. Tianna Deberry and Kyala Searcy added 11 apiece.


 

 

Fayetteville State will play host to Elizabeth City State in a cross-divisional conference game on Wednesday, February 14th at 5:30 pm in the Felton J. Capel Arena.
