Raleigh, NC - The Lady Broncos lose a Western Division contest to Saint Augustine's College 75-65, inside Emery Gymnasium Saturday evening in their race for first place in the CIAA.

Senior guard Leticia Dickson scored a game-high 19 points, while freshman forward Erica Gilley recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman center Tiffany Haywood was a solid contributor for the Lady Broncos chipping in 10 points and nine rebounds.

Fayetteville State went into the locker room at halftime only trailing 35-33. In the second half, St. Augustine managed to successfully maneuver through the Lady Broncos' pressure defense to the basket. With 11:15 remaining the Lady Falcons scored a lay-up that gave them their largest lead of the contest and put them up 51-39.

The Lady Broncos battled back and narrowed St. Augustine's advantage down to 61-59 on a jumper from Dickson with 4:47 left but they couldn't overcome 26.9 percent shooting from the floor and 19-of-40 free throw shooting for the game as the Lady Falcons pulled away down the stretch.

Three Lady Falcon freshmen each recorded a double-double in the win. Whitney Griffis led the way with 14 points and 14 rebounds, LaKiesha White added 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Allison Sikes had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Falcons; who outscored the Lady Broncos 48-22 inside the paint.

Despite the loss, FSU forced 35 turnovers with their defensive strategy. St. Augustine's controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Lady Broncos 71-49 and recording 13 blocks.

The win moves the Lady Falcons to 16-7 overall and 11-3 in the conference for a first-place tie with Shaw and Johnson C. Smith for the CIAA lead with two weeks left in the regular season. Fayetteville State is not too far behind, dropping to 14-9 this season and 10-4 in the CIAA.



The Lady Broncos return to action on Thursday, February 14th when they square off against Shaw University inside Capel Arena. As part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 2008 "Think Pink" initiative, the Lady Broncos will be wearing pink uniforms for the 5:30 contest.
