FSU Broncos’ Basketball Dominate Morris 92-50 for Sixth-straight Win

Sumter, SC – The Fayetteville State University women’s basketball team have turned its season around.

The Broncos suffered through the month of December and the first two weeks of January with six straight losses. FSU is now enjoying the fruits of their labor in those hard times.

Fayetteville State extended its win-streak to six straight games with a 92-50 win over Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina.

The Broncos opened today’s game with high intensity and focus before it begins the second half of the CIAA Southern Division on Wednesday in Charlotte.

FSU dominated the first half with a 22-4 first period and a 43-25 halftime score over Morris. The second half played much the same as the first. FSU outscored the Hornets 49-25.

The Broncos made 60% (30 of 60) of its field goals and limited the Hornets to 30.6% (19 of 62). FSU out-rebounded Morris 54-to-25. The 19 offensive rebounds led to 15 second-chance points.

A rotation of players kept the game intense, for the bench contributed 49 points.



Fayetteville State forced Morris into 21 turnovers with 15 steals which led to 26 points off turnovers and 30 fast break points.

Shaiquandra James (Gastonia, NC) led the game with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Noni Kuumba (Tracy, CA) tied the game-high with 16 points. Shantel Bennett (Sanford, NC) followed with a dozen. Breona Jones (Henderson, NC) led the game with nine assists.

Tatyana Weldon led Morris with 16 points. The Hornets played a solid second quarter, scoring 21 points.

Fayetteville State will return to conference play on Wednesday, February 7th with a 5:30 pm rematch with the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University. FSU upset the defending CIAA Champions, 76-67, in Felton J. Capel Arena to spark its 6-game win streak.
