Charlotte, NC - In a day-time make game, Fayetteville State (11-6 overall, 7-4 CIAA, 2-0 Western Division) defeated the Lady Golden Bulls 63-57. Tiffany Haywood poured in 20 points for the third time this season to lead the game. Undefeated in divisional play, the Lady Broncos controlled the tempo of the first half for an intermission lead of 32-24. Fayetteville State pushed out to a 15-point lead (28-13) in the first half with 6:28 remaining with solid ball management. The Lady Broncos shot the same amount of field goals as J.C. Smith (14-6 overall, 7-6 CIAA, 1-2 Western Division) but fared better with its percentage (44.8% - 31%). FSU also out-rebounded the Lady Golden Bulls 21-14. Twenty of FSU's points came from within the paint. Haywood (Jr. - Fayetteville, NC) had nine of her 20 in the first half. The Lady Broncos increased its eight-point halftime lead to ten in the start of second half but let the momentum slip away. Johnson C. Smith tied the game at 42 with 11:27 left in the game. Shakira Clarke (Sr. - Toronto, Canada) led the effort with her game total of 18 points and nine rebounds. Demetria Bell (Sr. - Indianapolis, IN) posted 15 points while Tyra Breaux (Jr. - Baltimore, MD) tipped in ten. Big outside shots by Mercedes Humphries (Jr. - Greensboro, NC), who hit three three-pointers for the game, excelled the Lady Broncos to a nine point lead. Humphries finished the game with 11 points. Fayetteville State was consistent with 44.4% shooting from the floor and a game total of 44.6% (25-of-56). The Lady Golden Bulls shot 32.8% from the floor with 21-of-64 attempts. FSU made 9-of-14 from the free-throw line for 64.3% (JCSU was 60.9%). FSU's Deja Middleton (So. - Richmond, VA) led the boards with ten rebounds while LaQuasha Jordan (Jr. - Greenville, NC) rounded out the double-figure scorers with ten.
